Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster (Spring 2023)

This past Sunday was the 35th birthday for The Final Fantasy franchise. Final Fantasy first debuted in Japan for the Nintendo Famicom System on December 18th, 1987. It was the first game by Square Enix’s Final Fantasy series, known as one of the most successful and influential role-playing games for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Thirty-five years later and Final Fantasy has spawned multiple sequels and spin-offs (including Kingdom Hearts).

The first six games of the Final Fantasy series were on the NES and SNES when they first came out. They revolutionized the idea of how incredible RPGs could be. Final Fantasy influenced many other RPG games like Secrets of Mana and Pokémon Red/Pokémon Blue

And that right there is why those six games are being re-released in a reboot known as Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster introduces the first six Final Fantasy games remastered in retro pixelated form. This remastered title includes Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy 2, Final Fantasy 3, Final Fantasy 4, Final Fantasy 5, and Final Fantasy 6. It is slated to release for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 in Spring 2023.

Besides that, Square Enix is also selling a physical Anniversary Edition of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster. The physical edition includes:

  • The physical collection of Final Fantasy I-VI
  • Bonus lenticular sleeve for the game package
  • Anniversary Edition Goods Box
  • 2-disc vinyl record set that has newly arranged game music with cover artwork by Kazuko Shibuya
  • Complied artbook showcasing beautiful character pixel art
  • Eight stylized pixel art character figures in window packaging

What a spectacular announcement from Square Enix. All of the first six Final Fantasy games come together in Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, just in time to celebrate its 35th anniversary. There is even a special Anniversary Edition coming as well (which will cost about $260 total). Even still, you can’t put a price on one of the most groundbreaking RPG games of all time.

With that, Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster comes out next Spring. You can get the first six Final Fantasy games for the Nintendo Switch or PlayStation 4. It’s the perfect news to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Final Fantasy franchise.
