In a little over two months, The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be out in theaters. Mario and Luigi are on the big screen once again as they face off against Bowser. We will even see characters such as Donkey Kong, Toad, Cranky Kong, Kamek, and even the penguins.
So what’s the best way to get audiences hyped for the film? Releasing a new teaser trailer, of course!
A new teaser trailer was released showing more of the fight between Donkey Kong and Mario. It shows Mario getting the cat suit after hitting the yellow block. Once he leaps down to face Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong laughs and mocks Mario for his silly costume. The teaser ends with Donkey Kong punching Mario.
The cat suit featured in the teaser trailer is another easter egg from the Mario franchise. For those unfamiliar, the cat suit was introduced in Super Mario 3D World. This item was first introduced in World 1-1: Super Bell Hill. Once you have the cat suit, you can climb up walls and swipe enemies with your claws. It can be a very useful item, especially during the trickier levels.
Besides that, we also got a first look at Seth Rogen’s role as Donkey Kong. Donkey Kong is one of the main characters in the film. Which makes complete sense, since Mario and Donkey Kong were first introduced in the game Donkey Kong that came out in 1981.
Not only did we get a new teaser trailer, but we also got another easter egg showcasing the cat suit from Super Mario 3D World. In the last clip that showed the Mushroom Kingdom, we also saw the clear pipes that were used as well. These clear pipes were a key element in World 6-1: Clear Pipe Cruise.
With that, Mario will be donning the cat suit in Super Mario Bros. Movie. The cat suit is the same one from Super Mario 3D World and is also featured in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. We also got to see Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong for the first time as well.
Be ready for that and even more Mario mania when The Super Mario Bros. Movie comes out April 7th.
